The 2010 World Cup qualifying clash between the national teams of Brazil and Argentina ended in a goalless draw yesterday in Belo Horizonte.

In a tough game where the defences prevailed over the attacks, Argentina were the better side and created the best chances, particularly in the second half. Lionel Messi was his team’s liveliest forward, despite receiving some harsh fouls from the Brazilian defenders. More proficient finishing could have given Argentina the three points; Messi in particular missed a couple of very good scoring opportunities.

Paraguay, who currently sit at the top of the Southamerican group two points clear of Argentina, will be the rivals that Leo Messi and his team-mates will be facing on their next qualification game, to take place in early September.
